A Word
From Paula
As the parent of a student with learning challenges, I have experienced firsthand the struggles many parents face as they seek support and services for their child’s special needs.
I have spent years studying special education and 504 laws to help parents navigate the system to make sure their child gets the supports and services based on that child’s individual needs.
I continue to enhance my teaching skills by attending conferences, classes, and training to improve my ability to help students individually and in small groups.

Frequently Asked Questions
These are just a few of the most commonly asked questions, but you may have more. Please feel free to email your questions on the contact page or call us for a phone consultation.
Why Do I Need an Advocate?
An advocate can help you understand evaluation results, navigate IEP & 504 meetings, and get your child the supports and services he/she needs to be successful in school. An advocate will keep your child’s unique educational needs at the forefront. An advocate can help open lines of communication with school personnel and specialists to create a respectful, cooperative team.
What if My Child Already Has an IEP/504 but We're Having Trouble?
We specialize in helping families get the supports and services their child needs in school. Our job is to make sure that your child has access to Free Appropriate Public Education and that the IEP or 504 suits your child.
How Do I Know if My Child Needs Special Education Services?
A parent is a child’s first teacher. You know your child best. You may see your child struggling with homework or coming home distraught from school. We can help you decide if your child needs extra support or evaluation based on your insight.
What is Your Tutoring Process Like?
Before tutoring begins, we speak with parents, teachers, and the student to determine where issues lie. We frequently assess a child’s skills to specify a starting point and create a baseline. Then we structure tutoring to address any areas of weakness while focusing on areas of strength. Progress is monitored frequently to ensure our teaching methods meet your child’s needs and that he/she is making gains.
“Paula Pelletier is a superb tutor for students with learning differences. Extensive training, resourcefulness, energy, patience, tact, quick- wittedness, empathy and a terrific sense of humor are only some of the gifts she brings to her work.
She is also, and perhaps most importantly, deeply passionate about giving her students the tools they need in order to learn, to feel good about themselves as learners, and ultimately to become their own advocates. Our son immediately sensed and responded to Paula’s genuine commitment to his needs and sensitivity to his experiences. When his “response” took the form of resistance (a familiar pattern for him, as for so many kids with LD), Paula stayed in the ring with him, never losing her perspective, never taking the friction personally, and working directly with his teachers to move forward on his behalf even when he was at his most difficult. In the end, he has come to treat her with real affection.
I once told Paula that my husband and I felt about her as we imagined the Keller’s did when they hired Annie Sullivan. We laughed, but it wasn’t far from the truth. It is a pleasure to recommend her.”
“From the moment we met Paula we knew she was a good fit for our son. Her background in education and counseling, her understanding of the school systems and her own experience as a mother makes all the difference in her approach.
Our son has a lot of emotional distress and it leads to a lot of difficulty accepting constructive criticism and stubbornness off the charts. Paula works very well with him and knows how to balance his educational and emotional intricacies. We’re grateful for her patience and her never-ceasing desire to be flexible and attentive to our son’s needs and necessities.”
“Paula has been our son’s tutor for several months now. Our son is in a boarding school so he is not living at home, and it was very important that we found the right tutor for him. Paula has handled everything from meeting with his teachers to helping him with his homework assignments. She sends us weekly updates about his academic progress.
Since he is challenged by learning disabilities, she has had good suggestions to help him navigate school work. For example, installing an appropriate computer program designed for students like him.
I would highly recommend Paula if you are considering a tutor for your child. The best reference for Paula is that my son enjoys working with her.”
